Procurement of Bandwidth Management and Interconnectivity Advisory Services for BMAS-MCAS

Outline

This procurement is for the provision of a range of bandwidth management and interconnectivity advisory services to augment UKERKA's capabilities in these areas through the establishment of a team of external advisors. Edward Wincott is the procurement manager and a procurement panel has been formed.

The JANET BMAS and MCAS services provide general advice on bandwidth and traffic management issues and specific guidance to organisations on questions about inter-site connectivity on the client sides of their JANET connections. An Operational Requirement (OR) has been produced which seeks proposals, in two modules, for the provision of an advisory service support function to provide assistance to the BMAS and MCAS co-ordination activity at JANET(UK) in the following areas:

Module 1

• Answering enquiries (mandatory);
• Consultancy (mandatory);
• Writing technical documentation (optional).

Module 2

• Carrying out product evaluations (mandatory);

The support function will probably take the form of advisors drawn from a computing department or development group, but could equally be provided by individuals who could each provide some of the services required. A group of three consultants is required to form the advisory team to ensure the availability of advisors and the requisite breadth of expertise.
