Outline

The Scottish Schools Digital Network (SSDN) Interconnect is a project that the Scottish Executive Education Department (SEED) has initiated as part of its overall plans to provide a Scottish Curricular Intranet for all schools within Scotland. The aim of the project is to provide a broadband network solution for all schools in Scotland.

The Scottish Executive Education Department has appointed JANET(UK) to provide and operate the "Scottish Schools Digital Network (SSDN) Interconnect" by utilising the existing SuperJANET backbone in Scotland to form the backbone to Scottish Schools Digital Network (SSDN). Each of the local authority schools' networks will need to be connected to the backbone.

Tenders are invited for the provision of data communications equipment, which JANET(UK) will combine with telecommunications circuits (which are being procured separately) to provide the 'Scottish Schools Digital Network (SSDN) Interconnect'.

The Panel members for the procurement will be:

Sue Weston, JANET(UK)
