The Further Education (FE) colleges in the UK are entitled to be connected to JANET at between 4 - 10Mbit/s. All JANET services are available to connected colleges, and the range of services currently offered over JANET is being further developed to meet the specific requirements identified by the FE sector.
Schools in England are now interconnected to Universities and Colleges in England and Schools in Wales are now interconnected to Universities and Colleges in Wales via the following JANET Regional Networks.
The Scottish Schools Digital Network (SSDN) provides each local authority in Scotland with a common set of ICT services for use by publicly funded schools in Scotland. The JANET backbone is used to interconnect the local authority schools networks and other key organisations for this purpose.
JANET(UK) is working together with the NHS/HE Forum to improve access to networked services while maintaining the privacy and security that are essential to both hospitals and universities.
